HUNTING & FISHING
HUNTING
Panonian Bačka plain is an ideal setting for hunting small game like rabbit, pheasant, moor game, wild pigeon, quail and roe deer of the first class trophy value. In the endless plain, in Bečej Municipality, there is a hunting ground in the area of about 30,000 ha. The hunting area for does is about 24,000 ha, for rabbit 26,000 ha, and for pheasant and quail 24,000 ha each. There are four hunting grounds: : “Bečejski salaši”, “ Čik” , “Plavša” i “Ribnjak”. The hunting tourism has a long tradition in Bečej. Hunting has been organized in Bečej Municipality since 1877. The increase of the game led to rapid development of hunting tourism and domestic and foreign tourists started coming to our hunting grounds.
Tourists have mostly been from Austria, Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The word about good hunting terrains and plenty of game and good organization at that has spread across the country and abroad, so that there has been no lack of guests. The authenticity of hunting and a specific experience is provided by the castle »Fantast« with its surrounding and rich contents, aand the prettiest Vojvodinian river Tisa, which, with its fish ponds and branches offers an opportunity of plentiful hunting for moor game. Pheasants, rabbits and does are mainly hunted during winter tourism period, and quails, doves, wild geese and roebucks during the summer one. The annual average of what tourists hunt amounts to 10–15 roebucks (35 in the year 2008), of mostly good trophy value, 10- 15 does, 500-600 pheasants, 100-150 rabbits, and quails and doves depending on the flyby. All this contributed to a good financial status of the society necessary for expert betterment and training of hunting staff, which led to a better organization of hunting, hosting and guiding of tourists, who have always left our hunting ground satisfied.
At the exit from Bečej towards Bačka Topola, at the estate named Radar Station, there is a newly-built shooting ground for clay pigeon shooting. The hunting ground is adjusted to the discipline »automatic ball trap« or ABT, with the capacity of 400 clay pigeons. Every shooting position and paths are roofed so there is a possibility of shooting under bad weather conditions as well. The surrounding pine trees and siberian elms provide a special convenience to the shooting ground.

FISHING
The total length of living watercourses in the territory of municipality amounts to 83 km. Bečej Municipality is exceptionally rich in fishing areas that are: the river Tisa, “Dead Tisa” near Čurug, Great Bačka Canal, Dead Tisa- “Medenjača”, Fish Farm Bečej, watercourses “Čik” and “Beljanska bara (pond)”, and also important are land reclamation canals for drainage of surplus water from the agricultural systems of Bečej Municipality.
THE RIVER TISA
One of the most beautiful rivers rich in fish is Tisa. Tisa flows through Panonian plane and it is the bigest left tributary of Danube. Its spring is in Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine and it empties into Danube at Stari Slankamen (Titel). It flows through Vojvodina in the length of 164 km, while in Bečej Municipality its length is 32,5 km. Fish that are fished are carp, catfish, pike, perch (22 species from 7 families). Particularly good places are downstream of the lock, and the catch is better from the boat.
OLD TISA BY "BISERNO OSTRVO" (PEARL ISLAND) "DEAD TISA" (NEAR ČURUG)
This preserved non-flowing river part borders or spreads through the agricultural area of a big marshland, Pearl Island and “weekend” area of Bačko Gradište and Čurug. Its length is about 25 km and it is the longest in our area near river Tisa. Being cut off from its watercourse, Dead Tisa preserved its natural values. It is rich in quality water, the reason being the absence of polluters and of the connection to the river course. It is convenient for sports fishing (23 species of fish), recreation, rest and growing of fruit and vine cultures. White fish, “babuška” (carassius, crucian carp), carp, perch are fished.
THE FISH FARM
The fish farm was founded in 1968. It was builtnext to the Bečej-Bačko Gradište road and it spreads on the area of 650 ha. Around it there are fields, pastures and orchards. The Fish Farm is supplied by water from the DTD canal, and the water is emptied in Old Tisa. The restaurant at the farm offers a diverse menu of fish specialties, while a small lake is used for sports fishing. Thanks to inclusion in the list of Important Bird Area (IBA) in 2000 this locality gained international significance as well. Carp, bighead carp, catfish and perch are fished.
GREAT BAČKA CANAL (CANAL BOGOJEVO-BEČEJ)
Great Bačka Canal flows through Bečej Municipality in the length of 22 km and empties into a slower part of Tisa south of Bečej. Due to insufficient maintenance and emptying of waste water the bottom is quite covered with sediment. . “Babuška” (carassius, crucian carp), brown bullhead, carp and less often rudd and perch are fished.
WATERCOURSES »ČIK« AND »BELJANSKA BARA (POND)«
Watercourses »Čik« and »Beljanska bara« are similar in terms of their natural surroundings, water regime and characteristics, although their recipient is different (DTD Canal for »Beljanska bara« and the river Tisa for »Čik«. Čik's spring is at Gornja Čikerija in Hungary, it flows through Vojvodina in the length of 90 km (total length is 102 km) and it empties into Tisa near Bačko Petrovo Selo. Its length in our municipality is about 33 km. »Čik« gets its water mostly from atmospheric sediment, especially at the end of autumn and spring and far less from springs. »Beljanska bara« is a shallow course which begins 3 km north of »Starobečejski salaši« (Old Bečej Farmhouses), where a few shallow ditches meet. From there it flows southwest and empties into Great Bačka Canal near Turija. Its length is 39 km. “Babuška” (carassius, crucian carp), white fish, perch are fished.
